JCPenney's design language began with a focus on clarity and approachability. Today, they're continuing that legacy with a renewed commitment to the customer.

PROBLEM

JCPenney recognized the opportunity to elevate the customer experience with a new design system. Their existing system, while functional, lacked the cohesion and intuitiveness expected in today's digital landscape.

SOLUTION

To empower a seamless user journey, I collaborated with the JCPenney design team. Together, we were crafting a next-generation design system that prioritizes clarity and user interaction.

Collaborating with JCPenney.

JCPenney's design team was overwhelmed and needed help modernizing their design system and making it responsive. This project was a great opportunity to collaborate closely with their designers. It required meticulous attention to detail and allowed me to mentor junior designers, guiding their career development and growth.

Atomic Design.

To support this renewal, JCPenney adopted the Atomic Design methodology, transforming their design system from reactive to responsive.

By breaking interfaces into fundamental building blocks, their design system became more flexible and user-friendly. This shift allows JCPenney to adapt to changing customer behavior and technological advancements, ensuring a seamless experience across all devices.

One Pixel at a Time.

JCPenney had set high expectations with a new Lincoln Design System 2.0 component library. I worked with a junior designer to continue bringing the system to a responsive experience.

Product Pages.

While continuing to update the design system, I focused mainly on the Product Listing Page (PLP) and the Product Description Page (PDP).

Below are the atoms, molecules, and organisms for the PDP pages.

It's alive!

The final step was integrating these components into a cohesive design system. This approach ensured a consistent and seamless user experience across all of JCPenney's digital platform.

Thinking Forward.

The e-commerce landscape is constantly evolving, and JCPenney is keeping pace. Being part of their design team has been a great opportunity to see how a legacy brand can continue to keep loyal customers.
